East Hills is a big, wooded village above Roslyn — curving 1950s–'60s streets that have been steadily rebuilt with much larger homes, and the village park at its center. The housing is mostly 1950s and '60s ranches and splits on the village's curving streets, larger Colonials and new builds on the wooded lots, and estate-style homes in the Norgate and Country Estates sections, and the blocks around the East Hills Park and pool and Christopher Morley Park each light up a little differently in December.

Here's what we've learned lighting East Hills: new builds with multiple gables and two-story entries get each element outlined separately. Wooded lots keep the wind down but put the best lighting opportunities — specimen trees, driveway approaches — well away from the nearest outlet. So we map power runs and timers on the design visit so tree wraps and driveway lighting each get their own circuit.
