Ask anyone in Dix Hills for directions and they'll point you to Dix Hills Park or the Half Hollow Hills library. Dix Hills is the big-lot, big-house hamlet of western Suffolk — rolling, wooded terrain, half-acre-and-up zoning, and a steady stream of older splits being replaced by much larger Colonials. The homes run to 1960s and '70s Colonials and splits on half-acre lots between Deer Park Avenue and Vanderbilt Parkway, large custom homes and rebuilds on acre lots north of the LIE, and wooded ridge-top properties off Deer Park Avenue, and that range is exactly why a one-size display doesn't work here.

The newer Colonials here have tall two-story entries and multiple gables — we outline each gable and the entry column separately so the scale reads from the road. Ridge-top and sloped lots put rooflines at odd heights and make the driveway approach a big part of the view — both change how we design the display. Ladder and lift placement is planned for the grade, and the driveway approach is lit as part of the display.
