Matinecock is the estate village south of Locust Valley — five-acre zoning, the old Quaker meeting house, and horse properties on winding roads under old trees. The housing is mostly estate properties on multi-acre wooded lots around Piping Rock Road, restored 18th- and 19th-century farmhouses, and converted estate outbuildings around Piping Rock Road, and the blocks around the Matinecock Friends Meeting House and Piping Rock Road each light up a little differently in December.

Here's what we've learned lighting Matinecock: long driveways — pathway lighting and gate-post fixtures on their own circuit before the roofline. On a wooded lot the wind isn't the issue — the distance between the good trees and the nearest outlet is. So we plan power runs first so the specimen trees get lit properly instead of whichever one is nearest an outlet.
